And now new entry in one of the most beloved skateboarding franchises just moved one step closer to getting a release date.<\/p>\n<p>EA announced plans for an early access release for a new Skate \u2014 simply titled <em>skate.<\/em> (lower case, with a period) \u2014game next year on <span class=\"waslinkname\"><ins>the game\u2019s official X account<\/ins><\/span>. The update also includes some pre-alpha footage of the new game that\u2019s currently being playtested for consoles and <span class=\"waslinkname\"><ins>the franchise\u2019s first PC release through Steam<\/ins><\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"twitter-tweet-wrapper\" data-embed-anchor=\"029c9ee1-ee12-56af-85fd-38b07f3a3751\">\n<blockquote data-theme=\"light\" class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>we&#8217;re incredibly stoked to announce that skate. will be launching in Early Access in 2025. we&#8217;ll share more details on what to expect in the coming months. <span class=\"waslinkname\">pic.twitter.com\/ZbFL3WycWu<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 skate. (@skate) <span class=\"waslinkname\">September 17, 2024<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Fans of the long-running Skate franchise have been receiving a stream of teases and updates since EA first announced the new entry <span class=\"waslinkname\"><ins>four years ago<\/ins><\/span>. Notably, last June EA informed fans this new title would be <span class=\"waslinkname\"><ins>a free-to-play live service game<\/ins><\/span> with microtransactions (allegedly without any \u201cplay-to-win\u201d elements though). The game\u2019s publisher also released new details on <span class=\"waslinkname\"><ins>its official game dev diary<\/ins><\/span> about how it&#8217;s rebuilding the \u201cFlick-It\u201d trick control system, expanding the game\u2019s character customizations and implementing playtests with feedback from the franchise\u2019s fans.<\/p>\n<p>The devs also revealed some interesting details about the game\u2019s core narrative. The new <em>Skate <\/em>game takes place in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, which has been taken over by a corporate overlord named <span class=\"waslinkname\"><ins>M-Corp<\/ins><\/span>. It seems that M-Corp\u2019s misdeeds are finally catching up to it, meaning that the shreddable city of San Van is open to skaters once again.
